Fuel rate to change

Fuel duty rates were reduced by 5p per litre for 12 months in March. It means this “temporary” cut will soon end. This means that fuel companies will no longer have to abide by the price cut which suggests we could see sudden price increases of as much as 12p.

Mobile phone use

Stricter phone rules were introduced near the end of 2022. It means drivers should never hold and use a phone, tablet, or sat-nav for any reason while driving or riding a motorcycle, even if stationary at traffic lights or in a queue. The only exception to the rule is if you need to call 999, but only when safely parked. Another exception is using a phone to pay at a drive-through.

Pavement parking ban

The huge change in pavement parking will come into force in 2023, with the Government prepared to ban drivers from parking on dropped curbs and pavements, in order to improve accessibility. 

New number plates

As per usual, new registration plates will be introduced so 2023 number plates will start being used in March, and in September new cars will be registered under the ’73’ plate.
