Stay safe on the road this autumn

Tyre problems were the number one cause of breakdowns on major UK roads in 2024, with over 53,000 incidents – nearly one in five of all recorded breakdowns.

Before your next drive, take a moment to do your TRIP check:

🚘   T – Top up: fuel, oil and screen wash
😴   R – Rest: take a break every two hours
🔍   I  – Inspect: tyre tread and pressure
🌦️   P – Prepare: plan for all weather conditions

A few simple checks could save you time, money, and lives.

Yet 55% of people surveyed by National Highways admit they don’t check tread depth before long journeys, and 48% don’t always check tyre pressure.

With more than six million illegal tyres thought to be on Britain’s roads, the consequences are significant – from wasted fuel costs of up to £1 billion each year to the far greater cost of lives lost.

In 2023 alone, more than 190 people were killed or seriously injured in tyre-related collisions.
