Drivers urged to be aware of dangers of morning-after driving.

 In NEWS

With the number of deaths caused by drink driving reaching its highest level in over a decade, campaigners are using Alcohol Awareness Week to highlight the potentially devastating impact of getting behind the wheel the morning after drinking.

According to government data, an estimated 300 people died in drink driving incidents in 2022 – the highest figure recorded since 2009.

In total, there were 4,620 collisions involving a drink driver that year, with 500 of those occurring between 6am and 12pm.

Of those morning collisions, 30 were fatal and 130 resulted in serious injuries.

In response to these figures, the Morning After campaign is urging drivers to understand how long alcohol remains in the system – particularly when planning to drive the day after a night of drinking.

This warning comes as part of ongoing efforts to reduce avoidable tragedies on the road.
