Rise in Fiesta car theft

 In NEWS

Police have issued a warning to fiesta owners as there has been a significant increase in thefts in the last few months. Most of the cars stolen were in Thurrock, Basildon, Rochford, and Southend.

But why?

A rise in thefts of Fiesta car components in Essex is possibly connected to Ford’s decision to halt production, according to the police. As Ford has decided to end the production of the Fiesta, the value of the cars has seen an increase as well as the demand.

The lack of parts for repairs is also a contributing factor to the increase in thefts, as many that are stolen are usually stripped and sold for parts

Things you should know

Parking your car on the driveway – It is a common statistic that thieves are more likely to target a car that is parked on the road instead of a driveway. If you can, move your car onto a driveway overnight, as the early hours of the morning are when most thefts take place.

Cameras and doorbells – People who have security cameras or doorbells with cameras are less likely to be targeted by criminals.

Raising awareness –  The best thing you can do to help prevent this is to share any information regarding suspicious activity in your area. If you strongly suspect or have any evidence of criminal activity you can always contact the police by calling 999.

Car security

Luckily, there are measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of having your car stolen. These are some of the best options.

Wheel locks – A steering wheel lock serves as a visible deterrent against vehicle theft. Immobilizing the steering wheel makes it more challenging for thieves to drive or tow the car away, providing an additional layer of security beyond standard locking mechanisms.

Ghost immobilizers – Whilst these devices are on the more expensive side, they are hands down the best protection against thieves that you can buy for your car. The device stops any thief from being able to start the car and drive off with it. The only way a criminal would be able to steal a car with a ghost immobilizer would be to manually tow it away, which is very unlikely to happen. These devices can be fitted to any car no matter what age it is.
