Drivers who follow the rules often have to swerve into the third or fourth lanes to overtake, as undertaking is not allowed. However, the more middle-lane hogging occurs, the higher the likelihood of dangerous undertaking, according to Birmingham Live. IAM RoadSmart advises: “Simply overtake the vehicle by using the outside lane (lane three or four) and then move back into the middle lane and then the inside lane when safe to do so. If enough drivers repeat this, the driver may realize they are hogging the middle lane and move to the left except for overtaking.”
