Stay Safe on the Roads During Warmer Weather

As the warmer weather arrives, many of us will be planning holidays, day trips, or visits to friends and family using the UK road network. With more vehicles on the roads and journeys to unfamiliar destinations, it’s important to make safety a priority before setting off.

Travelling in Hot Weather

Before You Travel, to help ensure a safe and stress-free journey:

  • Carry out essential vehicle checks before you leave to make sure your car is roadworthy
  • Check the weather forecast for both your route and destination
  • Take plenty of drinking water for yourself and your passengers if hot weather is expected
  • Allow extra time for your journey, including regular rest breaks
  • Check traffic and travel updates before setting off and during your journey when safe to do so

During periods of extreme heat, consider adjusting your travel plans where possible to avoid travelling during the hottest parts of the day.

A little preparation can make a big difference, helping you stay safe, comfortable and relaxed throughout your journey.
