The story began in 1971 when Sidney De’Cort, a highly respected Class One Police Driver in the Flying Squad, decided to bring professional Police driving standards to the general public. Using the renowned “System of Car Control”—a driving method still used by police drivers today—Sidney was passionate about improving road safety and helping learners become safer, more confident drivers.
Based originally in Upminster Bridge, Sidney built System Driving School from a one-man operation into one of the largest driving schools in Havering, with a team of 15 instructors serving the local community. His commitment to professionalism, safety, and high-quality instruction quickly established System as a trusted name in driver training.
Following in his dad’s footsteps, Kevin De’Cort began his career as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), teaching pupils throughout the Rayleigh area. Sharing Sid’s passion for driver education and road safety, Kevin saw an opportunity to build upon the strong foundations that had already been established.
In 2015, Kevin took over the driving school and embarked on an ambitious programme of growth and modernisation. By combining the traditional values that made System Driving School successful with the latest technology, modern teaching methods, and up-to-date vehicles, he successfully brought the business into the 21st century.
Today, System Driving School has grown to a network of over 100 professional driving instructors, all dedicated to helping learners gain the skills and confidence they need to drive safely on today’s busy roads. While the business has evolved significantly, the core principles of safety, professionalism, and quality instruction remain exactly as Sidney intended over 50 years ago.
Recently, we were approached by someone who had learned with System Driving School back in the 70’s and still had their original appointment cards. An amazing piece of history and memorabilia.
