Government cuts paperwork to help drive the EV push.
More drivers could save up to £1,100 a year as the government cuts red tape and takes steps to make it easier than ever to install electric vehicle chargepoints at homes, workplaces, and public spaces.
Lilian Greenwood, the Future of Roads Minister, announced that starting 29 May 2025, more drivers and businesses will be able to install public or private EV chargepoints without needing to submit a planning application.
According to the Department for Transport, reducing paperwork will make it easier, faster, and more affordable for EV owners with driveways to install private chargepoints and charge their vehicles at home.
This change could help drivers save up to £1,100 a year compared to using a petrol or diesel vehicle, the department added.
