Over three months, more than 1,800 drivers in Essex were caught speeding.
Between July and September 2024, speed enforcement officers recorded 1,809 drivers exceeding the limit at 102 sites across Essex, concentrating on roads like the A13, A12, A130, and M25.
The statistics
This marked an increase from the 1,599 offenders detected in the previous three months.
Among the violations, officers noted a top speed of 104mph on a 70mph road and another driver traveling at 72mph in a 30mph zone.l.
How this will be tackled
An Essex Police spokesperson stated: “Our Speed Enforcement Officers, as part of the Roads Policing Unit, are committed to addressing road-related crime, particularly speeding offences that pose a risk to all road users. Through their collaboration with Community Speedwatch volunteers, who monitor speeds in their local areas, they also play a vital role in educating drivers about the dangers of speeding.”

The end goals
The cameras will be installed at yellow box junctions on Fairfax Drive at its intersection with Prittlewell Chase, on London Road at the Nelson Road junction, on the A13 at the Elm Road junction, and at the A127 Bell interchange where it meets Rochford Road.
They will also be positioned at no right turn locations, such as Warrior Square at the junction with Chichester Road, and the no left turn at A127 Prince Avenue where it meets A1158 Prince Avenue.
