You Can Reset a Game. You Can’t Reset a Life.
New campaign urges young drivers to think twice about speeding

A new road safety campaign from the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) is encouraging young drivers to rethink their attitudes towards speed — and reminding them that, unlike in a video game, there are no second chances on the road.
Called “There Are No Respawns”, the gaming-inspired campaign highlights how one split-second decision behind the wheel can have life-changing consequences.
Launching across Essex cinemas, social media and digital platforms this summer, the campaign encourages young people to challenge risky driving behaviours, look out for their friends and make safer choices when driving.
To help connect with its target audience, SERP has teamed up with Essex-based content creators Reid Card, Aki Suthakar and Jodi Stottor, whose combined social media following reaches hundreds of thousands of young people.
A real-life reminder of the consequences
At the heart of the campaign is Ben Wilson, who was seriously injured in a road collision nine years ago.
Ben suffered seven broken bones and a traumatic brain injury. He continues to experience memory problems and fatigue as a result of the crash.
Sharing his experience, Ben said:
“My car crash changed my whole life, and I will never be able to return to the life that I used to have.”
His story provides a powerful reminder that the consequences of dangerous driving don’t disappear when the journey ends.
There are no second chances
The campaign uses familiar gaming language and imagery to challenge the idea that risky decisions can simply be undone.
In a game, you might be able to restart, respawn or try again. On the road, you may only get one chance.
Whether it’s speeding, showing off to friends or taking a risk that seems harmless in the moment, the campaign asks young drivers to consider what could happen before making that decision.
The message is simple: slow down, speak up when a friend is driving dangerously, and make every journey count.
Because while you can reset a game, you cannot reset a life
